  3. THE MAGIC OF GREEK SPRING

Greece in spring is a beautiful time! While everyone loves Greek summers, spring is a calmer, but just as amazing season.

The Greek word for “spring” is “άνοιξη” (ánixi).

This word comes from the verb “ανοίγω” (anígo), which means “to open”. This signifies the “opening” of nature, the rebirth and regrowth that occurs in spring.

ανοίγω (anígo) > ανοίξω (ánixο) > άνοιξη (ánixi)

FOR Example:

In Greece we say: “Ανοίγει ο καιρός” wich means that the cold days are going away and sunny and warm days are coming preparing us for the summer.

Imagine hills covered in colorful flowers like red poppies, white daisies, and purple irises. Spring in Greece is like a beautiful painting. The weather is warm, and there’s more rain, which makes everything grow. You’ll want to take lots of pictures! Go hiking in the countryside and mountains to see the best flowers. Remember to wear good hiking shoes!

Spring is also the perfect time to see Greece’s old ruins. It’s not too hot yet, so you can enjoy walking around places like Delphi, the Acropolis in Athens, and Knossos in Crete without being too hot.

Spring is also a great time to visit the Greek islands. You’ll avoid the big summer crowds and enjoy nice weather for traveling between the islands.

You’ll find lots of fresh food in Greece during spring. Enjoy things like artichokes, asparagus, and fava beans. Restaurants will have special spring dishes. Spring is also a good time to see parts of Greece that aren’t as crowded. You can find hidden gems, pretty towns, and beautiful nature. Whether you’re hiking, visiting old ruins, or eating in a traditional restaurant, spring in Greece is a special experience.
