How many times per week are sufficient for my child to learn Greek?
It depends on the student’s prior knowledge and the learning objectives. Whatever the language competence level, the more often you practice, the better results you will achieve in terms of language acquisition. However, the time-schedule of both children and teenagers is very constricted and, for this reason, we suggest at least one lesson per week. If there is enough time though, having lessons twice a week, will greatly enhance language acquisition.
Can I arrange to be in a group with my friends?
Yes, in this case we can arrange a semi-private lesson with 2 students or a group lesson with up to 4 students. Such small groups benefit from both the tailor-made approach adopted in the case of private lessons and the opportunities for group interaction.
What happens when the teacher cancels a lesson?
Students will be informed at least one day before about the cancelation of a lesson. In case of cancellation on behalf of the teacher, we will arrange together a new lesson.
How are parents informed about their children’s progress?
According to student’s profile, each parent will receive a detailed description of Dos and Dont’s on how to support their children’s second language acquisition (useful tips, suggestions). Parental involvement, interest and support are decisive factors in the student’s performance and progress. Parents will be informed about their childrens’ progress as often as they request it and via a detailed report every 3 months.
What do you need to have for the Greek online lessons?
For the online lessons students need to have a good internet connection, a camera, and a microphone. A printer is also very useful to young learners. The lessons take place via ΖΟΟΜ. Apart from that, the students should also have a notebook to write notes, when necessary. Finally, all the educational material (digital textbooks and other tools) will be provided by the teacher.
Should I opt for private or group lessons?
The purpose of a private lesson is to address the needs of one learner, so it is recommended in cases where students need individualised attention or want to accelerate the learning process. Also, private lessons are more suitable for young children (5-8 years old) that take their first steps in the Greek language. On the other hand, group lessons are ideal for teenagers and young adults primarily for socialisation purposes. The group lessons offer opportunities to make new friends, work in teams and practice Greek with other speakers.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
You can cancel or reschedule private lessons 24 hours prior to the lesson.
Group lessons cannot be canceled or rescheduled. If you miss a lesson, you will receive a link to the recorded lesson as well as a detailed description by the teacher so you can easily catch up with your groupmates.
Semi-private classes can only be canceled or rescheduled with the consent of all students in the group. It is necessary to cancel at least 24 hours before the lesson. If one of the semi-private class students is unable to attend a lesson, he or she will be sent a recording and a detailed description.
Should I be with my child during the lessons?
Parental involvement is very important for students from 5 to 7 years old. The lessons for these ages are designed in such a way that are family friendly. That means that the parent is involved in some activities of the lesson (treasure hunt games, physical and digital games). The young learners gradually become more independent within a few months and the parents’ role is becoming more and more discrete. In case of teenagers and young adults, the presence of the parents is not needed, since these students are independent already.
